What are JUCOs and why many athletes should consider them

CAPTIONS:

“Junior colleges, often referred to as JUCOs, are 2-year schools.

Athletes that attend a JUCO lose 1 year of eligibility to play at a 4-year school for every year he or she plays at a JUCO. JUCOs give athletes a 2nd chance to get recruited by 4-year schools and another year or 2 to develop their skills and can be a very high level of play.

JUCOs are much less expensive and can offer scholarships. Also, athletes can take prerequisite courses at JUCOs and as long as those credits transfer to the athlete’s 4-year school this doesn’t really affect the athlete academically.

So, athletes who are not getting offers from 4-year schools they are interested in or are late in the recruiting process like late junior year or later, should consider JUCOs.”
