Evaluations

Laynie Bauer is a 2028 corner infielder with a wide variety of positives. Standing 5-10, she has the length to stretch at 1st base. She’s also played a lot at 3rd because of her arm strength. Laynie has a fluid swing with power (hits 3rd/4th in lineup), and she’s also a great bunter when needed.   Coaches speak glowingly about Laynie’s leadership and competitiveness. She’s dedicated to improving and often works out at 5 am before school. Laynie will show up early and ready to be coached.   Laynie underwent back surgery in Oct. 2024, so she had to build back up her strength and lateral quickness. She was able to recover and even play basketball during the late winter. Laynie is a great teammate and student (3.5 GPA), and I expect her to really improve over the next couple years. — Jon Feyen, ScoutU Softball Scout, Jon@ScoutU.com, 920-979-3093

Message from Laynie

I am Laynie Bauer, a 2028 recruit from Appleton East High School in Wisconsin. I currently maintain a 3.5 GPA and hope to major in either architecture or sports management. I’ve been continuously playing multiple sports my whole life, putting dedication into all of them, but softball stood out the most. As a sophomore I played 8 different positions on the diamond. At 5-foot-10, I play a lot of first base, but I’m also used at 3B thanks to my strong arm (60 mph run & gun). I’ve clocked a 65 mph exit velocity and run 3.2 seconds to 1st base.   Unlike some athletes, an injury did not set me back. In October 2024, I was sent to Milwaukee Children’s hospital because we discovered an Aneurysmal Bone Cyst had developed on my spine that was trying to paralyze me. I underwent surgery to remove the cyst and replace it with metal implants, which sets me apart from other athletes. I worked so hard to come back so I wouldn’t miss a single game or practice my freshman season (March 2025), and I succeeded.   I give it my all every day at practices like they are games, while also getting in the workouts I need to improve my skills – whether that’s going to the gym or finding an open diamond to work on my speed and determination. Currently, I am taking an Advanced English class, pushing my skills each day. Last year, I received the Sherwood Russell Athletic Award for being an outstanding multi-sport athlete in middle school. This award gave me the confidence and the inspiration to use my skills for the better.   Thank you coach for viewing my profile, and I hope we can discuss your team soon!
