Evaluations

Kenley Payne is an exceptional shortstop whose athletic ability and fielding skills set her apart as a top recruit for NCAA softball. With remarkable range and mobility, Kenley demonstrates an uncanny ability to track and secure pop flies in foul territory – her specialty – and dive for ground balls in the hole. Her quick recovery and strong arm (61 mph overhand) ensure that she consistently makes the play, even in high-pressure situations. Kenley’s awareness and game intelligence are evident as she positions herself strategically, communicates effectively with teammates, and executes plays with precision. Her agility, strength and ability to jump/dive for balls make her a defensive powerhouse who can also contribute as a versatile outfielder when needed. Offensively, Kenley is a dynamic asset in the lineup. Her bunting technique is exceptional, allowing her to place the ball precisely and utilize her speed (3.1 to 1st) to reach base consistently. Whether batting second or fifth, she adapts to the team’s needs with strategic hitting that often targets gaps in the defense.   Kenley’s intangibles make her a standout candidate for collegiate softball. She is a natural leader, inspiring her teammates with her competitive drive and unwavering focus on improvement. As a student of the game, Kenley thrives on learning and applying feedback, and her ability to anticipate plays helps her change the game dynamics. She regularly works out with teammates privately, fostering camaraderie and teamwork, and provides crucial support to pitchers, communicating effectively to maintain focus and morale. With a 4.0 GPA, Kenley exemplifies the balance of academic and athletic excellence that top college programs seek. Her work ethic, resilience under pressure, and relentless determination make her a strong candidate who is primed to succeed at the next level. — Susan Kemper, ScoutU Softball Scout, Susan@ScoutU.com, 604-808-5215

Message from Kenley

My name is Kenley Payne, a 2029 utility/middle infielder from Arizona with a strong commitment to both academics and athletics, boasting a 4.0 GPA. As a freshman, I earned All-Region 1st-Team (6A) honors, batting .451 with a .544 on-base percentage. My journey in sports began with baseball, but I transitioned to softball, drawn in by the vibrant uniforms and the sense of belonging I found within my team. This experience not only sparked my passion for competition but also nurtured my leadership skills on and off the field.   My understanding of the game continues to deepen, allowing me to anticipate plays and read situations effectively. With guidance from my dad, a former professional baseball player, I regularly analyze my performance through game footage and targeted practice. I focus on improving specific skills, such as bat speed and footwork, employing techniques that enhance my hitting and defensive capabilities. This rigorous training regimen ensures I’m always prepared for competition, allowing me to refine my skills and address any weaknesses before tournaments.   Softball has taught me invaluable life lessons, including teamwork, resilience and the importance of hard work. I strive to lead by example, motivating my teammates and demonstrating my dedication both in the classroom and on the field. My involvement in community service and Girl Scouts over the past 5 years further reflects my commitment to making a positive impact. I appreciate your time in reviewing my profile, as it highlights not only my athletic achievements but also the values that softball has instilled in me.
