Evaluations

5-foot-10, 165 pounds. 1B/RHP. R/R. A true two-way player. Her club coach, who has ran a program for 30 years, calls her one of the best first basemen he’s ever had. Excellent at stretching at 1B. Reads the ball well to be very good at scooping balls out of the dirt. Strong arm (65 mph infield). Good range. Communicates well. Coach has said she saves 3 at-bats a game with her defensive prowess. At the plate, bats No. 4 for her club team, which will be playing at nationals in California in 2021. Makes good contact and utilizes hip turn to get power. Can hit to opposite field, but more of a pull hitter. Working to improve hitting offspeed pitches more consistently. In the circle, has a high ceiling with 62 mph fastball and solid frame (5-10, 165). 4-seam fastball is accurate. 2-seam fastball has curve-like movement. Drop/curve throws in low 60s, drops late and moves across about half the plate. Changeup is in the mid-40s, can throw in any count, can throw for strikes or out of the zone and is deceptive. Working on a riseball. Gets good push off rubber, good drag and uses power well to push forward. Working on getting more drive and having better overall accuracy. Very good work ethic. Works out after school, does cage work and gets pitching lessons twice week. Excellent student (4.19 GPA). — Jason Lauren, ScoutU Head Scout, 414-303-7607, Jason@ScoutU.com

I have known Jayda for about 2 years now. She has played for the Bandits for the past two seasons. She is one of the most dedicated players we have had in our program in the last few years. She is hard working, energetic, dynamic and a pleasure to be around and to coach. The last 2 years I had the pleasure to be her travel ball coach with a great summer schedule that took us around the country to play softball. We were very successful and Jayda was a major part of our success. She is one of the best 1st basemen that we have had in our program. She is a clutch performer and comes through time and time again when you need her.  Jayda is just a very gifted athlete in the sport of fastpitch softball.  Jayda is also working very hard as a pitcher and making major strides to become a top pitcher at her age level.

As a person, Jayda is even better than I have described above. She is dedicated, motivated and loyal to the program. She is extremely coachable and a leader both on and off the field.  Jayda has the ability to make her teammates better, and she always does it with a smile on her face. Jayda would be an asset to any program or organization that she feels she would like to be a part of.  Jayda is what a student-athlete should be — smart and hard working. If you have any questions regarding Jayda please do not hesitate to call me at 920-382-7014. Thank You for your time, and I hope you consider Jayda for any scholarship or award that she may be interested in.

I am honored to write on behalf of Jayda. There are players that you know just love this game of softball by the passion they exude on and off the field. Jayda is one of those girls that not only loves the game of softball, but also life. She is a competitor, fantastic student-athlete, leader, role model and overall outstanding young lady. Every interaction I’ve had with her is positive and honest. She recently attended a leadership conference with me. Even though we didn’t have a season her freshman year, her work ethic and desire to be great pushes others around her to follow. I know that Jayda will work hard and give her teammates the best version of herself each day. She is full of life and excels in so many areas. I look forward to working with her this year and absolutely love being around her.

Message from Jayda

Hello! My name is Jayda Nelson, and I am a 2023 graduate from Kimberly High School in Wisconsin. I am a 5-foot-10, 165-pound first basemen and right-handed pitcher. I play for Wisconsin Bandits 16U Gold and use my flexibility and long stretch to help make outs in the infield, recording 134 putouts during my 2020 fall season. During my sophomore year, I made 1st-Team All-Conference with a 1.049 OPS, using my power and discipline at the plate to get on base and drive my teammates in. My infield velocity is 65 mph and my fastball is 62 mph. I currently hold a 4.19 GPA, and I plan on majoring in engineering.

I bring positive energy and enthusiasm to the team while holding myself and my teammates accountable. I take a performance training class (a high intensity lifting class with a weekly crossfit), along with before-school lifting and strength and conditioning three times a week during the summer. I take honors classes, such as Honors English, and I am ranked 31 of 408 students in my class. I have taken two leadership classes at my high school to help create good habits and set a good mindset to help be a better leader on and off the field. I am also an elected student council representative at Kimberly High School and take part in making our school and community a better place for everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and I look forward to learning more about you and your school!
