Why academics play a vital role in recruiting
CAPTIONS:
“Athletes who also are strong academically have a big advantage in recruiting over those athletes who aren’t as strong academically for several reasons.
One is it doesn’t matter how good of an athlete you are, if you can’t get into a school academically, that school won’t recruit you.
So, the better you are academically, the more opportunities you will have athletically.
Also, for athletes who are looking to go to top-notch academic schools, it gives them a big advantage over non-athletes to get into that school, because the top academic schools in the country may turn away 90 to 95% of applicants, all of which are gifted students.
I always tell kids to look at your grades like your stats. The better they are, the more recruiting interest you likely will get.”
