Tommy Meyer definitely saved the best for last. Just 6 weeks removed from leading Liberty Christian to a state title, Meyer put the exclamation point on his senior year by signing with Hannibal-LaGrange University, an NAIA program in Missouri.
“I am super excited!” Meyer said. “It’s a big commitment and means I am playing 4 more years of basketball – and basketball means a lot to me. Hannibal-LaGrange is a smaller campus, which is a good fit for me. I think it will be really easy to make friends with the team, and it has my same values.”
This season Meyer was all over the court, averaging 12 points per game and totaling more than 50 assists, 50 blocks and 50 steals. He had a handful of colleges seriously interested before making his commitment to HLGU.
“What really stood out about Tommy was his size, athletic ability and versatility,” ScoutU’s DJ Blanks said. “He’s a long guard who can shoot it, dribble and pass. He plays well in space and has the dedication to play at the next level. Congrats Tommy – this is well deserved!”
Hannibal-LaGrange is a team on the rise, increasing its win total each of the last two years. The Trojans went 19-8 this season while posting a 6-game winning streak during February. At 6-foot-6, Meyer will bring great length and creativity to their roster.
“DJ Blanks was a pivotal piece in encouraging Tommy and giving him advice,” his mother Kim said. “ScoutU gives you an opportunity to come into contact and be seen by colleges you didn’t even know existed. We are grateful for the wisdom on how & when to communicate with coaches – especially when you would otherwise get lost in the chaos of all the emails and texts from coaches.”
