Laquanda Prince, who lives in Jacksonville, FL, brings extensive experience from major collegiate programs and is widely respected as a skilled, effective leader who embraces and advances the mission, values and vision of basketball. She takes great pride in supporting student-athletes holistically — academically, athletically and within the community. She played basketball at the University of North Carolina and has coached at several colleges, including North Carolina, Jacksonville University, Elizabeth City State, Tennessee Tech, Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU), Winthrop, Florida International, and Iowa. She served as an assistant coach under legendary coach Jim Davis at Tennessee Tech during the 2014-15 season.

Prince’s head coaching tenures at Elizabeth City (2015-16) and SPSU (2010-14) highlight her leadership and competitive success. At SPSU, she guided the program to three NAIA Division I women’s basketball national championship appearances, posting an overall record of 83-43. Her 2013-14 squad delivered a perfect 15-0 home record and contributed to a 26-1 mark over her final two seasons. The team finished 23-8 overall, claimed the SSAC Eastern Division title and earned an automatic berth to the NAIA national tournament — Southern Poly’s fourth appearance in 5 years.

Prince spent four seasons (2006-10) as the recruiting coordinator at Winthrop, where her recruiting acumen and on-court coaching helped the Eagles achieve a historic level of success. Her contributions supported a 2009 WNIT appearance and multiple national statistical rankings, including top-6 in field-goal percentage and top-25 in scoring defense. Winthrop also posted consecutive winning seasons in Big South play for the first time in program history.

From 2003-06, Prince served as the recruiting coordinator at Florida International University, helping the program amass 48 wins and make multiple postseason appearances, including a WNIT semifinal run in 2006. Her early coaching years included positions at Gardner-Webb and the University of Iowa, where she contributed to Iowa’s 2001 Big Ten Tournament title.

Prince earned her B.A. in physical education, exercise and sport science from the University of North Carolina in 1999 and her M.S. in physical education from Florida International University in 2006. As a student-athlete at UNC from 1995-99, she helped capture three ACC championships, earned ACC Academic Honor Roll distinction and received the program’s Coach’s Award.

A native of Shelby, North Carolina, Prince also had her high school jersey retired at Crest Senior High School. Her impact on the game extends beyond her coaching career. Prince was named one of Cleveland County’s 50 greatest basketball players by the Alumni Basketball Association, LLC, and the Cleveland County Business Development Center.

Laquanda resides in Jacksonville with her husband, Joseph, and is currently supervising, teaching and coaching middle school student-athletes.
