Evaluations

5-foot-7, 155 pounds. RHP/OF. R/R. Strikeout pitcher who can dominate (166 strikeouts in 90 innings and 4 no-hitters in high school; 163 Ks in 117 IP in club). Mixes speeds and pitches well. 62-64 mph fastball with a natural drop (1,220 spin, 3.9-inch vertical break). Curveball (58 mph) is best pitch with nice movement on it (down and in on righties, hits spots, 2.3-inch vertical, 2.0 horizontal). 40 mph flip changeup is deceptive, throws for strikes or in dirt and throws in any count (1,083 spin, 7.7-inch vertical movement, 4.1 horizontal). Riseball has a late rise to it (56 mph). Solid mechanics (good pushoff and timing). Working to improve arm speed. Stays calm and doesn’t rattle. Great attitude. Strong work ethic (lifts weights, sees pitching coach). At the plate, hits in 3 or 4 spot. Gap-to-gap lined-drive hitter (67 mph exit, 58 mph bat speed). Can hit oppo if pitched outside. Good load and timing. Working to improve bat quickness (0.18 time to contact, 15.5 mph hand speed). 3.48 GPA with honors/accelerated courses. Plans on majoring in education. — Jason Lauren, ScoutU Scout, 414-303-7607 (cell), Jason@ScoutU.com   As a pitching coach for 25 years, there have been some players that I recognize as having the “it” factor. Sydney Klar is one of them. She is feared as both a pitcher and hitter in her high school league (very competitive), and I know this first-hand because I coach against her. She is head and shoulders better than the majority of players she faces. This is a result of her hard work, dedication to her craft, and competitiveness. I’ve been working with Sydney since she was very young, and her skills as a pitcher have continued to grow every year. Each year, not only has her speed and pitches improved, but her strength has developed as well.   Sydney throws a located fastball in the 63-64 range and tempers it with a changeup that can drop off the table. Her drop is sharp and a great counterbalance to her riseball. She also throws a curveball and has added a screwball that has become a favorite in 2025. She has thrown over 4 no-hitters, and 3 of them were consecutive (unheard of!).   Sydney is continuing to work at throwing all her pitches consistently. I am confident that due to her commitment, she will achieve even more success her senior year. Sydney is an incredible athlete, but she’s also a wonderful teammate. I watched her cheer on her volleyball teammates with incredible energy and enthusiasm. I was mesmerized by her selflessness and support of her team since she was on the bench. Sydney has a way of making you feel good but she is never ingenuine. Because of this, she is a strong leader amongst her peers. Her teammates look to her to lead, and lead she does. In the circle or at the plate, Sydney is a competitor. She is not phased by any situation and steps up to the moment with poise and strength. She doesn’t shy away from tough situations – she thrives in them. Recently after returning home tired from an out-of-state tournament, Sydney came for a lesson and would not stop working her pitches until she got everything right – even though her body was exhausted. This type of dedication is why I would take Sydney on my team any day and any coach would be lucky to have her. — Kim Jones, Pitching Coach     Athletic Strengths: Sydney Klar is one of the best all-around softball players to come through Stewartville High School.  Sydney is a powerful RHP who is able to mix a scary fastball that sits in the low 60s with a changeup in the low 40s that buckles batters’ knees. She can spin the ball with a hard-breaking curve and drop ball while magnifying her velocity to climb the ladder with an effective rise ball. She is a combined 19-5 with 243 strikeouts. Even after an outstanding freshman season, Sydney continued to improve in the circle. She’s improved her K/BB from 1.8/1 to 3.8/1, and her opponent BA from .228 to a measly .148. Sydney is also one of the team’s strongest hitters. As a freshman, she was in the top 3 of almost every statistical category. Last year as a sophomore, she led the team in batting average (.382), OBP (.440) and total hits (29). Sydney is a major reason for the recent success of our softball program, which was ranked as high as #4 in the state in 2024 and secured the first conference championship in school history. Areas to Improve: Sydney has improved so much over her softball career and I know that with her work ethic, she will continue to grow as a player and a person. Sydney throws the ball so hard and spins it so well, the next step in her evolution as a premier pitcher will be to consistently locate all of her pitches. I would also like to see her be more efficient with her pitch counts, as my goal is to keep her healthy and fresh so she can continue to dominate throughout the course of a game and season. Non-Athletic Strengths: While Sydney is as talented as they come, it may be her intangibles that set her apart from so many others. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Sydney Klar is her competitiveness. When we face the toughest teams on our schedule, Sydney wants to have the ball in her hand. Regardless of the potential impact on her statistics, she has been the one in the circle for our biggest games, and it’s because she gives us the best chance to win. I also believe Sydney has an ability to lock down in the most stressful of situations. Her drive and work ethic are second to none. The time she has spent perfecting her craft – whether it be lifting weights, pitching lessons, batting practice, or the many hours throwing to her dad on a bucket – have often been behind the scenes. The monumental success she’s experienced already in front of so many eyes is because of the dedication and work she has put in when no one is watching. It’s hard to beat someone that never gives up, and that is Sydney Klar. — Krystal Peterson, Stewartville H.S. Coach

Message from Sydney

My name is Sydney Klar, and I attend Stewartville High School in Minnesota. I am a 2026 pitcher and also play the outfield. I am 5-foot-7 and weigh 155 pounds. Academically, I hold a 3.48 GPA and am interested in majoring in education. My fastball velocity is currently 62-64 mph, and it has movement (3.9-inch vertical break) making it difficult to hit – as do my other pitches (curve, rise, drop, screw and changeup). I totaled 194 strikeouts during the 2025 high school (96.2 innings) and 163 during the 2024 club season (117 IP). I threw 5 one-hit games, one with 20 K and another with 19 K this spring. My junior year batting average was .485 (68 AB) with a .538 OBP and 6 HR. Honors that I received included 2nd-Team All-State, All-Conference, ABC 6 Player of the Week and MN Star Tribune Prep Athlete of the Week.   What makes me special is my positive attitude, energy on and off the field, and my strong mindset. I am coachable, making suggested adjustments quickly and am a good teammate, leading by example and cheering on my teammates. Tough situations do not rattle me in the field or when I’m up to bat. I do pitching workouts, strength and conditioning, and work with pitching and batting coaches on my own. In school, I take accelerated college courses such as College English, Sociology and History. Outside of school, I enjoy volunteering with Special Olympics, the local elementary school and within my community.   I appreciate you taking the time to view my profile and look forward to talking soon!
