Contact hitter. Good eye for strike zone and solid pitch selection. Working to improve hitting the opposite way more often and improving bat speed (53.4 mph). At SS, excellent glove (not much gets past her; keeps in front, not afraid to dive, very good hand-eye coordination, fast reaction time, strong backhand, smooth double plays, quick transfer). Working to improve arm strength (52 mph infield, 60.7 mph run & gun). Smart base runner (3.49 20-yard dash). Leader (leads by example). Message from Sophia
My name is Sophia Abundiz, and I am a 2028 graduate attending Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) in Wisconsin. My club team is Wisconsin Lightning 14U 28/29. I concluded my fall season with a .394 BA, .453 OBP, 31 extra-base hits and 16 strikeouts in 103 AB. Some notable accomplishments during the last year include our team finishing 100-26-4 overall for 13U and 38-13-2 overall in 14U. I stand 5-foot-4 and weigh approximately 140 pounds. My primary positions are SS and pitcher. Academically my current GPA is a 3.6. One attribute I pride myself on the field is being a quiet leader that my teammates can always count on throughout the game.
I believe what sets me apart is my ability to keep my emotions in check. This includes when I am not having my best day. My training regimen consists of pitching and hitting 3 times/week, working on my fielding, and strength training with Total Athlete Performance. I’m also proud of my ability to make in-game adjustments – be it during an AB or in the circle. Off the field, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my sister, going on vacations and spending time with my two English Bulldogs.
