5-foot-4, 135 pounds. RHP/SS/OF. R/R. Advanced talent for age. Earned varsity letter as a 7th grader on a team that finished as the Minnesota Class AAAA State Tournament runner-up. In the circle, has 56-57 mph fastball with a natural rise (hits outside spots well). Curveball (56 mph) has good movement (4.7-inch vertical break, 3.8 horizontal). Throws knuckle change (48-49 mph, 6-inch vertical break, 2.8 horizontal). Has good push off and drive. Working to improve her snap/whip to increase speed. At the plate, hits No. 3 in lineup. Power potential (hit 2 homers in club season the summer before her 8th-grade year). Mostly a pull hitter. Quick hands (18.4 mph hand speed, 66 mph exit, 56.6 mph bat speed). Working on keeping hands back on off-speed pitches and recognizing pitches. At SS and OF, has good range with her speed (3.05 20-yard dash). Accurate throws. Strong forehand at SS. Message from Melia
My name is Melia Salo, and I will be attending Bloomington Jefferson High School in Minnesota with the 2030 graduation class (earned a varsity letter as a 7th grader). I am a 5’4” right-handed pitcher, shortstop and outfielder. A few things that stand out about me are my 56 mph fastball, 66 mph exit velocity, 57 mph bat speed and 3.05 20-yard dash.
I’m a student of the game, and I can often be seen watching video of my games and college games. I am able to dial in at game time. I am very coachable and good at applying corrections. Outside of practice and games, I work with my hitting coach and pitching coach on a regular basis, as well as hit and pitch in my garage (where I have a cage). I am a good student with a 3.5 GPA and participate in the Young Women’s Leadership program at my school. I’m also involved with the Unified PE class as a general education model for students with special needs, which I really enjoy.
