2028 PG/SG Maddi Frohnapfel is a big-time player in Kentucky. She has played varsity for Hazard High School since 7th grade. Things that really impressed me about her were her ball handling and maturity at such a young age. Maddi is very good on the break with her speed with the ball, blowing past defenders and finishing with easy layups. At 5-10, she has a very solid shooting form and is a true competitor. Her defense is also strong, and she knows how to lead a team at an early age. Maddi plays high-level AAU basketball for West Virginia Thunder, who compete in all the top circuit tournaments across the country.
During her high school career, you can expect a lot of broken records and possibly a state championship. The best thing about Maddi is her heart and grit on the court – I can tell this girl spends a lot of time perfecting her game. It’s fun to watch young players with so much passion for the basketball, like seeing Maddi create her own shots due to her ball handling abilities, which also lead to easy points, double teams and then assists.
Maddi has D1 potential, and I would not be surprised in a year or two everyone will know who Maddi Frohnapfel is. She does need to improve on demanding the ball and taking over, which will happen with maturity and understanding that her team might need her to score 25-30 points to win. If she continues to work on her shooting consistency (which I know she will do), this player will be something special to watch in the coming years.
