There are many benefits to playing at the collegiate level. Sometimes it’s the scholarship, facilities or the chance to face better competition. For Taron Seghers, playing college baseball means working with great coaches. Recently, the 2026 ScoutU infielder committed to Highland Community College in Illinois.

Seghers is looking forward to learning from head coach Chance Sharp, who tallied 80 wins in his first three seasons. During his discussions with the Cougars, Seghers also was impressed by the players and how competitive they are.

“It was a pleasure helping Taron with his recruiting,” ScoutU’s Jason Lauren said. “Not only is he standout baseball player; he’s a great kid and a great student with a 3.9 GPA. I’m excited to see how he develops at the JUCO level, because I think he has a very high ceiling with his 6-1, 200-pound size. I look forward to continue helping him find a good fit at a 4-year school to continue his baseball career!”

Last spring, Seghers received All-Conference honorable mention at Kaukauna High School. His 70 mph bat speed will definitely translate to the next level, which is why he had phone calls with at least 8 college coaches.

“Jason’s knowledge of the process and willingness to guide us through the ins and outs made such a difference,” said Taron’s mom, Miranda. “We truly appreciate the time you took to explain things and share your experience. It helped us better understand what to expect and how to navigate the process.”
