What program wouldn’t be interested in a 6-1 receiver with great speed, athleticism and a state championship on his resume? Following his senior season, Bennett Mallory was still searching for his best college opportunity. After ScoutU ramped up his interest, Mallory recently accepted a scholarship to Bethany College, an NAIA program in Kansas.
“I received multiple walk-on offers before working with ScoutU – probably around 3 or 4,” he said. “After connecting with ScoutU, the interest really grew with more than 35 responses and about 5 or 6 offers to visit or play. I’m truly grateful for all the opportunities. It’s been humbling to see the interest and support from so many programs.”
Last year Mallory tallied 59 receptions for 770 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was also a factor on defense with 3 interceptions. Mallory’s contributions were vital to Houston Christian winning the Texas SPC-3A state title.
“Ever since I started playing football at age 8, it’s been a dream of mine to play at the college level,” Mallory said. “To see that dream becoming a reality is something I don’t take for granted. I’m incredibly excited and thankful for the opportunity to continue playing the game I love, and I’m looking forward to working hard, growing as an athlete, and contributing to my team in any way I can.”
With 4.59 speed and a 36-inch vertical, Mallory possesses the raw ability to excel in college. But ScoutU’s Lucas Vincent, a former SEC football player, saw even more.
“What I believe attracted colleges to Bennett was his work ethic and attitude,” Vincent said. “He’s a first-one-in, last-one-out type of kid who is going to put the team first. Outside of his work ethic, he’s someone who is going to take care of his academics and be a positive example on the team.”
Mallory found another figure who strongly believed in him in Mike Grossner, a two-time AFCA Region Coach of the Year.
“Coach Grossner consistently reached out and expressed belief in my potential to contribute to the team, which really stood out to me,” Mallory said. “I was fortunate to receive a generous scholarship offer, which I’m incredibly grateful for. After visiting campus, attending a team lift and getting to know the players, it just felt like the right fit – athletically, academically and personally. I’m excited and thankful for the opportunity to be part of the program.”
Many commits have learned that recruiting isn’t just about talent – it’s about the personal connections. Mallory discovered that having the right teammates can make a huge difference.
“Lucas Vincent and ScoutU had a great impact on Bennett’s recruiting journey,” his mother Leslie said. “Lucas was fantastic to work with – genuine and supportive. He was incredibly responsive and took the time to understand Bennett’s ‘why,’ encouraging him to stay focused and trust the process. His guidance, communication and belief in Bennett made a real difference, and we’re truly grateful for his support throughout this experience.”
