Danielle Eker is travelling a long way from Israel to Tennessee to play collegiate soccer, but she won’t be the only one. Eker recently committed to the University of Tennessee-Southern, a roster that features women from eight different countries.

The Firehawks, ranked #6 in the NAIA Preseason Poll, are coming off a 19-3-1 season that included an undefeated record in conference play. Tennessee-Southern advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 NAIA Championship.

“A full scholarship, the weather, coach and the team seemed very nice,” Eker said about why she chose UT-Southern. “It’s exciting to live far away and experience soccer in another country. I hope to continue growing better as a player.”

Eker had several other offers, and said she received about 70 communications from college coaches since joining ScoutU.

“It was no surprise that Danielle received a lot of interest,” ScoutU’s Mackenzie Bellows-Schissel said. “She is a dynamic midfielder who has an eye for the goal. Her soccer ability stands out, but she also has the type of personality that any coach would want on their team. Danielle is very passionate about soccer but also has a deep passion for her family and friends. She is a dedicated student and exemplifies bravery to move to another country to pursue her dream of playing college soccer. I am very proud of Danielle’s commitment, and I’m excited to follow her journey at Tennessee-Southern!”

After winning a Maccabiah Games title and playing in the Women’s Premier League at age 16, Eker was ready for her next challenge. She just needed some tools and guidance in the recruiting arena.

“ScoutU was personal, full of patience, answering questions quickly and professionally,” Danielle’s mom Yael said. “Thank you for everything – we couldn’t have done it without Mackenzie.”
