As the leadoff hitter for Batavia High School (Ill.), Gwen Shouse is used to getting things started. Now that her high school chapter is closed, Shouse is ready to begin her collegiate softball career at North Central College.
“What stood out the most about North Central was the people, the team and the coaches,” Shouse said. “They all made me feel super comfortable when I was around them. It made me feel like I belonged there. I’m so beyond excited to be able to go here and play with such a special team. I feel like it’s a dream come true to play at a competitive level like this.”
After making All-Conference during her sophomore and junior seasons, Shouse was named to the All-State Third Team as a senior. She batted .371 with a .600 slugging percentage while handling defensive responsibilities at shortstop and centerfield.
“Gwen is a versatile player who can slap, bunt or swing away from the left side of the plate,” ScoutU’s Jason Lauren said. “She also has a strong arm, is a leader with a great attitude and has a strong work ethic. I’m happy she found a school I think she will thrive at both athletically and academically!”
Shouse has always been a hard worker, developing her special speed (2.9 seconds to 1st) and plate discipline (.485 OBP for club). During her recruitment, she had serious discussions with several schools before finally finding her new home in Naperville, Ill.
“ScoutU was definitely helpful in the process of getting Gwen on her path to playing in college,” her dad Jeremy said. “To have a resource available to answer many of the questions proved helpful. Thank you for all of your help along the way!”
