Kamille Kautz brings a complete package on the softball field with her hitting ability, defense and intelligence. She was looking for an equally special college that checked all of her boxes, and found just that in St. Martin’s University. Kautz recently committed to the Saints, an NCAA Division II program in Washington.

“Saint Martin’s has always been a college I wanted to play at,” Kautz said. “I’ve been attending their camps since I was 10 years old. Staying on the West Coast was always what I wanted, and I wanted to be close to home.”

“I had multiple phone calls and in-person meetings with D1 programs as well as a couple of local community colleges,” she added. “Saint Martin’s made an offer in late May/early June. Coach Peterson understood that I was getting a lot of attention and consideration from D1 colleges and allowed me to continue my recruitment up to that point. I made my decision at Saint Martin’s latest prospect camp.”

After being named All-League Defense her junior season, Kautz batted .493 with 6 home runs this summer. The SS/3B is known as a field general and someone who leads her teammates in the offseason workout program.

“College coaches were drawn to Kamille’s complete student-athlete profile,” ScoutU’s Susan Kemper said. “She is a 4.0 student, a powerful hitter, a versatile middle infielder and a natural on-field leader with an advanced understanding of the game. Kamille and her family also approached the recruiting process with tremendous commitment. They were engaged, responsive and open to guidance throughout the journey, and I maintained close communication with them. Their willingness to work together, follow up with programs and remain patient and focused helped Kamille find the right collegiate opportunity.”

The recruiting process is a team effort involving the athlete, parents, coaches and any other assistance they might need. In order to maximize this special opportunity, it’s crucial to have the right people giving you advice.

“Coach Susan was amazing,” said Kyle Kautz, Kamille’s father. “She always emailed us back ASAP when we had questions or just giving her an update on where Kamille was at with her recruiting. It also was great to see her every now and then at a tournament. I love ScoutU’s format of helping an athlete with their recruitment and getting their name out there. The email system is one-of-a-kind and I have never seen it before. The athlete gets feedback on who opens their emails and who clicked on their profile.
