Kemi Ekoka knows that every recruiting journey is different. After growing up in Germany, he found his way to Northwest Iowa Community College. Ekoka then joined ScoutU to maximize his options when transferring to a higher level. Recently, Ekoka committed to North American University, an NAIA school in Texas.

“North American University stood out because of its strong soccer program, supportive coaching staff and the overall team culture,” Ekoka said. “The location in Houston was also a big plus, as it provides great opportunities both on and off the field. I felt like it was the best place for me to grow as both a player and a student.”

While in Germany, Ekoka helped Rahlstedter SC win the Hamburg Championship, advancing to the second-highest U17 league in the country. It was this experience against top competition that prepared him for the next level.

“I’m beyond excited to continue playing soccer at the collegiate level!” Ekoka said. “It’s been a dream of mine for a long time, and I can’t wait to compete at a higher level, improve my skills and be part of a great team.”

During his transfer process, Ekoka talked with many coaches and received three official offers. His academic focus was just as strong as his desire on the pitch.

“Having a year of experience at the junior college level, Kemi was ready to move on to a 4-year institution to pursue an engineering degree,” ScoutU’s Mackenzie Schissel said. “Two things Kemi knew that he needed at his next college were an engineering program and a college in a metropolitan area.”

“Kemi is an athletic, well-rounded defender who keeps possession through the backline in order to create forward progress up the field,” she added. “He would have been a great addition to any program and ultimately chose North American University! I am looking forward to following Kemi’s journey at NAU and am excited to see where this opportunity takes him!”

Ekoka’s skill level and determination have gotten him this far, and those qualities are sure to be valuable as he continues his soccer career.

“Since joining ScoutU, I received more than 15 emails from colleges and had several conversations with coaches who showed interest in me,” Ekoka said. “Mackenzie and ScoutU played a huge role in helping me connect with college coaches and get exposure. They provided guidance throughout the process, helped me understand my options, and made sure I was seen by the right programs.”
