When Addisyn Petersen attended the Loras College softball camp, her goal was to improve her skills and perform in front of college coaches. As a bonus, she bonded with the players who will become her future teammates. Recently, Petersen committed to Loras, an NCAA Division III school in Iowa.
“Loras makes me feel at home,” Petersen said. “After attending the Loras Prospect Camp and working with the coaches and current Duhawks, I knew. The current players instantly made me feel so welcomed, and I felt their support from the second I stepped on the field. Coach (Ashley) Winter made my decision incredibly easy. She is inspiring and motivating, and wants the best for all of her girls, but also pushes them to their limits to better themselves.”
Last club season with the Wasco Diamonds, Petersen counted 80 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. Her 6-1 record was complemented by a .185 opponent batting average.
“I’m so excited that Addisyn was able to commit to the school that was her No. 1 choice and the best fit for her!” ScoutU’s Jason Lauren said. “Addisyn not only has good velocity as a pitcher in the low 60s, but she also owns a 1,300+ spin rate and excellent movement on her curveball. I’m sure she will have an excellent career at Loras!”
The Duhawks, who posted a winning record each of the last 3 years, are getting a reliable pitcher, strong student-athlete (3.34 GPA) and young woman determined to keep improving.
“I am beyond words of excitement to play college softball at Loras,” Petersen said. “I am eager to start this new and exciting chapter of my life. I am also beyond proud of myself for the opportunity I was given to play softball at the higher level.”
Petersen is grateful to have earned another 4 years competing on the diamond. And there’s a good chance she’ll be working Loras camps to inspire the next generation of collegiate athletes.
“Jason Lauren and ScoutU provided her wonderful guidance in the recruiting process, helping her perfect her communication with coaches and putting her in touch with some great schools she would have never considered before,” said Addisyn’s parents.
