Most athletes love their experience playing high school sports. A select few have the talent and drive to extend their career even longer. Caitlyn Ethen will be one of those special players after recently committing to Carthage College, an NCAA Division III school in Wisconsin.
“I’ve always dreamed of playing basketball in college – now I can’t even believe it’s a reality,” Ethen said. “I knew that I couldn’t stop playing basketball after 12 years just because high school was over.”
Last month in the regional championship game, Ethen carried Glenbrook North (Ill.) to victory with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.
“Caitlyn is a very versatile player at 5-foot-10,” ScoutU’s Jason Lauren said. “She can play guard or forward and can defend guards or taller post players with aggressiveness and pressure. Caitlyn is an excellent shot blocker and has very good court vision. I’m so happy she found a great fit at Carthage, and I’m sure she will be an impact player there!”
The Firebirds are getting an intense competitor who can do many things to help her team win. During the recruiting process, Ethen received at least seven offers and had calls with more than 20 college coaches.
“Carthage stood out to me because of the welcoming team, amazing programs and convenient location,” she said. “I saw how much my sister loved the school, and I knew I could see myself going there.”
Ethen is a well-rounded student-athlete, holding a 3.8 GPA and participating in several extracurricular activities. ScoutU provided the tools to make sure she would find the best college opportunities.
“Prior to meeting with Jason, we had no clue how to even start the recruiting process, much less how to help our daughter speak to the coaches,” her dad Joseph Ethen said. “The ScoutU program was seamless. Jason sent us a basic checklist of things to do. The most work we had was to find clips and submit them so ScoutU could put together a highlight reel. But the most helpful part was the ease of sending letters to the colleges that our daughter was interested in.”
