Catey Carney has a dream to play Division I basketball. Last year, Morton College advanced eight players to the next level, including three D1 products. After determining that Morton was the best way to achieve her ultimate goal, Carney recently committed to the junior college in Illinois.
“Catey is a very talented player who can shoot 3s, drive to the hoop, hit pull-up and fade-away jumpers, has excellent ballhandling skills and also great court vision,” ScoutU’s Jason Lauren said. “I’m confident she will excel at Morton to keep her D1 dream alive, and we look forward to continuing to help her with her recruiting while at Morton.”
Last year, the Panthers posted a perfect regular season record on their way to a 34-1 mark. Because of Morton’s success moving players to the higher levels, Carney should have plenty of chances to develop her game.
“What stood out most about Morton was the coaching staff and the opportunity in which it presents,” she said. “My goal has always been to play Division I, and it is a real possibility when going JUCO first. The coaching staff made me feel confident in my abilities and that I can call Morton home.”
Carney explored a variety of options, receiving six total offers across three different levels.
“Before ScoutU, I only had one call with a college coach,” Carney said. “After using the program, I had almost 20 different calls with schools from Division II to NAIA. I am beyond excited to play basketball at the collegiate level. It’s truly a blessing to be able to have the talent and desire to get to this point, and it’s very rewarding.”
During her junior year at Glenbard East High School, Carney contributed 18 points and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 78 percent on free throws. She was named unanimous all-conference each of the last 2 years.
Carney’s family is thankful that ScoutU gave her the tools to get noticed by coaches and extend her basketball career.
“We were pleased with our ScoutU experience,” Catey’s parents Sean and Stacie said. “Jason gave us a comprehensive overview of the platform and shared a lot of knowledge about the recruiting process in general. I think the tool that had the biggest impact for our daughter was the exposure emails. Emailing coaches with targeted messages before her tournaments increased the number of schools that came to watch her play, eventually leading to phone calls and visits.”
