Kate Bogenschutz played her first tournament on the Wisconsin PGA Junior Tour just last year. One month later, she carded a 79 at Whistling Straits – one of the most difficult courses in the region. Now after receiving three NCAA Division I offers, Bogenschutz has committed to play for the University of Montana.

That progression exemplifies just how fast things can move when you deliver athletically and have the right team around you. Bogenschutz won every North Shore Conference meet this season while collecting her second straight Player of the Year award.

“I received too many emails to count!” she said. “I talked to many schools after enrolling in ScoutU. It was a great help!”

Bogenschutz, who plans to major in biology, kept an open mind when narrowing down her college options. She visited Montana during late September and was quickly hooked.

“I loved the atmosphere,” Bogenschutz said. “Missoula felt like a home away from home. It’s the perfect size, and I don’t mind the distance from Wisconsin. Coach Kris (Nord) and the team were also very welcoming. It was great to be able to play with the girls and get to know them. They have a great program, and I was able to easily imagine myself in Missoula for the next four years!”

Bogenschutz was recently named 2nd-Team All-State. At the WIAA Division I Sectional, she posted a 76 for third place. Her dramatic improvement over the last 16 months implies that her best golf is still ahead of her.

“I’m so excited,” Bogenschutz said. “Even though I got into golf a little later and started the recruiting process later than most, this is still such a dream come true for me. Because of my late start, I never really knew if this goal was possible. So achieving it is beyond exciting to me!”

ScoutU’s Jon Feyen was impressed by the consistent mid-70s to low-80s from Bogenschutz last summer. In addition to that, she owns a 4.2 GPA and scored a 28 on the ACT.

“Kate has a very well-rounded game from tee to green,” Feyen said. “She set her mind to playing Division I golf and was willing to put in all the necessary work. When I first met Kate, she told me her favorite part of competing was being with the team. I can’t wait to see her bring that dedication to the Montana Grizzlies!”

Bogenschutz received plenty of advice along the way from her teammates, friends, coaches and parents. All of them agreed that she choose the school where she felt most comfortable and saw herself thriving as both a student and an athlete. Bogenschutz found that Montana checked all those boxes, and ScoutU is proud to have made that connection.

“Jon Feyen was very helpful in Kate’s recruiting process,” her father David said. “He really took the time to get to know Kate as an athlete, as well as a student. He got her exposed to colleges and universities that were a good fit both academically and for their golf programs. Jon was able to answer any questions she had pertaining to the recruiting process. Thank you to Jon and ScoutU for all your efforts in helping Kate find a great fit in a university and golf program.”
