Even with a fastball that touches 69 mph, a 14-2 record and All-State recognition, Hannah Meshnick couldn’t handle the recruiting process by herself. The 2022 pitcher teamed up with ScoutU, which led to four NCAA Division I offers before Meshnick recently committed to Illinois State University.

Meshnick, who posted a 0.84 ERA with 157 strikeouts for Hortonville High School last season, joins a Redbirds program that won the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference with a 31-10 record.

“As soon as I left campus after my visit, I knew I wanted to go there,” Meshnick said. “The coaching staff is very experienced and was super welcoming. There is so much support in academics, and I know I can succeed there academically and on the field.”

Meshnick played club ball for the Wisconsin Bandits, one of top 16U teams in the country. ScoutU helped get the attention of colleges, who came to watch her play during the summer.

“An overwhelming amount of coaches called since enrolling with ScoutU,” Meshnick said. “Before ScoutU, I wasn’t in contact with any colleges and was starting to get worried, but ScoutU opened up a lot of doors for me.”

ScoutU’s Jason Lauren saw the skills that make Meshnick a rare type of recruit. Players like her always shine the brightest when challenged by elite competition.

“Hannah is an exceptional talent with a fastball that sits in the mid-60s and touches 69,” Lauren said. “She definitely is one of the best high school pitchers in Wisconsin. Hannah proved she could play at the D1 level last season when she excelled at several big-time tournaments with the Wisconsin Bandits, including at Nationals against a team loaded with D1 commits where she struck out several of them.”

The college recruiting world can be quite complicated, so Meshnick was happy to have a trusted adviser the whole way through.

“Jason has been super helpful with my recruiting process and answered all my questions,” Meshnick said. “Before enrolling with ScoutU, I was very unfamiliar with the whole process and didn’t know where to start. Jason helped me through all of it and was very supportive.”

Lauren knew Meshnick would have numerous quality schools pursuing her, which assures that she could determine which one was the best option for her.

“I had several college coaches contacting me regarding her,” Lauren said. “It wasn’t a surprise, considering her talent, strong character and work ethic. I’m so excited for Hannah that she’ll be playing for a great program at Illinois State!”

Meshnick still has her senior year ahead of her, but she’s already accomplished a major goal: she’s one of the select few who get to play Division I softball.

“It’s a dream come true to have the opportunity to play in college,” Meshnick said. “It is something I’ve prepared and worked for since 10U, and I am so happy I get the opportunity to play for four more years.”
