Ashley Nail helped Briarwood Academy (GA) win a softball state title during her sophomore season. She was also part of the school’s track and field championship team that year. And with her commitment to Augusta University, Nail plans to continue that winning tradition.
The 2021 outfielder is a native of Augusta, Georgia, so her family will have the opportunity to witness her college career. “The coaches are awesome, and it felt like home,” Nail said.
Augusta has been coached by Melissa Brocato for the past 22 seasons, and she’s totaled more than 500 wins. The Jaguars counted at least 28 victories every year from 2005-12.
Nail’s skill set is highlighted by her 2.7 speed to first base. She also owns a strong arm (63 mph) and power at the plate with an .823 slugging percentage. Nail posted a .471 batting average during travel ball.
“Ashley is a true triple threat in every sense of the word,” ScoutU’s Scott Woodcock said. “She is a game changer and gets up the line in a flash! Ashley has a very strong softball IQ and is always aware of her options on defense as well as on offense.”
Nail enjoys the thrill of seeing defenses fear her speed. Three years ago, she switched to batting left-handed to apply even more pressure. “Stealing bases – even when the catcher knows what I’m going to do – is exciting for me,” she said.
ScoutU congratulates Ashley for achieving her goal and proving that all her dedication has paid off.
“It’s been a lifelong dream to play in college,” Nail said. “ScoutU opened doors for me to have college choices.”
