Katie Hansen wasn’t just looking for playing time or the chance to join an impressive college basketball program. She wanted to go somewhere that would have a strong impact on the rest of her life.

This led to Hansen committing to Hamilton College, which is ranked as the 14th-best liberal arts school in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Hamilton is an NCAA Division III school located in Clinton, N.Y.

“Hamilton stood out to me, because the coach is as passionate about basketball as I am and has the energy to push me to get better,” Hansen said. “Hamilton College also is in a part of the country that I really want to live and study in, and it’s an academically competitive school that will challenge me as a student and a player.”

ScoutU’s Jason Lauren started helping Katie early in the summer and within four months, she committed to one of the top academic colleges in the nation. Hansen is exactly the type of student-athlete coaches desire because of her 4.6 weighted GPA and 1420 SAT score.

Lauren also was impressed by Hansen’s basketball ability at 6-foot-2.

“What separates Katie from most other players her size is her speed and overall athleticism,” Lauren said. “She already has a 31-inch vertical, so once she gains some strength, she will be a force in college.”

Hansen had a nice junior season for Fremd High School (Ill.) that included conference and regional championships. She then earned Co-MVP at the Windy City Classic playing for Hustle Elite 17U.

“I am extremely excited about continuing my basketball career, because I can look forward to growing with another team that will support me through the switch from high school to college,” Hansen said. “Since enrolling with ScoutU, I had around 50 schools contact me. Jason Lauren and ScoutU had an enormous impact on my recruiting process in terms of explaining how the process works, specifically for me, and putting my name out so more colleges were aware of me. I wouldn’t be the player I am now without the help that ScoutU recruiting gave me.”

Lauren knows from years of experience that a prospect’s athletic ability often opens up doors to better academic opportunities.

“Katie was a pleasure to help with her recruiting,” Lauren said. “She is a great kid with great parents, which goes along way to gain college interest. I’m so proud of her that she not only found a great college to play basketball at, but she also found a great academic fit for her with Hamilton being one of the premier academic colleges in the entire country.”
