When ScoutU’s Scott Woodcock first sat down with Kyrah Dailey, he learned something unusual about the softball player from Wahoo, Nebraska. Dailey said that she likes the cold and the snow. 

So it should be no surprise that Dailey committed to NCAA Division I University of Maine. 

“Maine was absolutely beautiful,” Dailey said. “The coaches were super welcoming, and we had great conversations about how the program operated like family. The great community surrounding the university and the Midwestern mentality of the people there made me feel at home.” 

Dailey went to a lot of camps and visited many campuses, but she knew that Maine was where she’d be the most happy. The Black Bears are getting a great athlete (2.85 to 1st) who batted .495 during last year’s club season as an outfielder. 

“This feeling is almost indescribable,” Dailey said. “Nervousness and anxiousness are also very real feelings around this time. It is something that I have wanted since around age 12, so having the opportunity to play is so exciting, because it makes me want to work harder everyday, so when I get to those practice days in college, I am fully prepared.” 

Woodcock is glad the Dailey family reached out to him. 

“Kyrah is a go-with-the-flow kid on the surface, but deep down she is driven and knows exactly what she wants to get out of life,” Woodcock said. “Her dad is an amazing guy who would do anything for his kids, and knew that recruiting was out of his depth. When he contacted me, he had clearly done his homework and mentioned several names of people he spoke with about me — all college coaches — who recommended he give me a call. I was honored, yet humbled a bit and still needed to see her play.” 

Dailey had a number of schools interested in her, and she knew that the more options she explored, the better. 

“Scott really pushed me to stay in contact with coaches and stay persistent with emails and text messages,” Dailey said. “He also got me connected to a lot of coaches that I most likely wouldn’t have been connected with. Maine probably wouldn’t have happened without Scott.” 

Woodcock is proud to help Dailey achieve her dream of playing at the next level. 

“Although she had interest from nearly every region, and offers from most of those regions as well, she kept being drawn back to the Northeast and narrowed it down to three schools up there,” Woodcock said. “I think she knew right away that Maine was her best fit, and coach Mike Coutts couldn’t have agreed more. I am so excited for her and can’t wait to watch her kill it up there.”
