Keelie Mauk may not have great size at 5-foot-0, 125 pounds, but she has all the tools that college coaches are looking for. The Lafayette, Ga., 2020 prospect evaluated her three offers and decided to play for Montreat College, an NAIA program in North Carolina.

“Keelie took a methodical approach to things,” said ScoutU’s Scott Woodcock. “She doesn’t fit the typical recruiting box many coaches operate in as she’s only 5 feet tall, but Keelie plays much bigger. She has one of the best gloves I’ve seen and isn’t afraid to go horizontal when necessary. She doesn’t have blazing speed, but being a left-handed hitter makes her a pretty valuable asset. Keelie has too many intangibles to list, but at the end of the day, she’s going to put them all together and make some things happen.”

Mauk compiled some impressive numbers during club ball last year, including a .447 average with 39 RBIs, 23 doubles, five triples and 12 stolen bases. She also delivered with a 3.9 GPA in the classroom.

“I’m super excited about playing ball for Montreat,” Mauk said. “It has always been my dream to play college ball, and to be able to pursue those dreams is such a blessing.”

Mauk liked the fact that Montreat has less than 1,000 students.

“The thing that stood out the most is that I could go in and be so welcomed by everyone,” Mauk said. “I could walk around up there and it just felt like home.”

Since becoming a ScoutU prospect, Mauk had at least a handful of schools call her. Woodcock helped her sort through these options and determine which school would be the best opportunity.

“Scott really helped put me out there and was always trying to get me seen and make me better,” Mauk said. “He was great to work with, because he got to know who you truly were and what was best for you and always told you the truth. He didn’t only help me with softball, but if I needed something he was always there and would have my back!”

Woodcock also enjoyed helping a prospect who was determined to play at the next level.

“I loved working with Keelie!” Woodcock said. “She is extremely coachable and will go through a wall for someone who believes in her the slightest bit. Keelie ended up with several offers, but she knew that Coach (Heather) Maston and Coach (Melina) Wilkinson were the ones she wanted to play for. She knew that Montreat was where she wanted to be, and I believe it is in fact her perfect fit.”
