Evaluations

Ryland has grown up with teamwork and understands the value of commitment, which you see in his preparation and workload. Beyond playing, Ryland works at a challenging 9-hole course on Bowen Island, practically in his backyard. He’s spent countless hours on the practice area at a young age, so it’s clear golf isn’t just a sport for Ryland – it’s a lifestyle. He’s honing his craft with precision and currently owns a 77 average. Based on his enthusiasm and approachability, I imagine he’s the course’s unofficial ambassador. It probably doesn’t hurt that he’s grown up with a family legacy that includes Stanley Cups and Gold Medals.   His physical presence (6-1 and 180 pounds) amplifies his performance across sports. Working with Colin Lavers, a successful PGA and B.C. Golf instructor, has also paid dividends for his development. Ryland is showing growth in all areas – off the tee, with his irons and on the green.   Ryland isn’t just a prospect; he’s a valuable commodity to any team. He can be relied on academically as well with a 3.6 GPA. His character, discipline and appreciation for teamwork make Ryland an ideal addition to any collegiate golf program. — ScoutU   Ryland has shown remarkable progress in our time working together. He’s a multisport athlete that is now dedicating his time to golf and has shown a rare ability (in my experience) of being able to grasp a concept, swing feel or new body movement in 3-5 swings. Ryland picked up 8 MPH in clubhead speed, now easily cruising around 112, and has made significant strides in his ball striking with irons/wedges where he’s now able to flight them consistently with a repeatable stock curve.   Ryland has shown a dedication and work ethic that I’ve only ever seen in a couple other of the 100’s of juniors I’ve coached. He has repeatedly been out in the dark putting/chipping with a headlamp in not-warm temperatures. Ryland’s commitment to excellence, ever-improving skill set and strong work ethic position him as a promising prospect for collegiate golf. — Colin Lavers, PGA of Canada Associate Pro, 2020 PGA of BC Coach of the Year

Message from Ryland

I’m Ryland Bentall, a 2025 graduate at Rockridge Secondary School in British Columbia, Canada. My average drive is 285 yards with a clubhead speed of 112 MPH. I average a 77, am the 2022 and 2023 Bowen Golf Junior champion and also took 3rd place (men’s division) at the 2024 Bowen Golf Championship. With my 3.6 GPA, I blend academic prowess with an exceptional sports work ethic. I plan to major in business communications.   My journey embodies an innate drive to be the best, ingrained in me from a young age. I’m more than a student-athlete; I’m a force aiming for the pinnacle in academics and sports. My family has a great tradition in athletics, with my mom playing college volleyball and my dad excelling in extreme sports. I start each day at 5:30 a.m. with a 5K run (18 minutes) before school. Although I’ve competed in several sports, my true passion is golf. I recognize the significance of homing in on a singular goal for the highest level of achievement. For me, golf is a lifestyle. I have also dedicated four years to working at a challenging course in my backyard.   Balancing education with my passion for sports is a core principle. Influenced by my mom, a teacher, I understand the importance of excelling academically while fostering strong and respectful connections within the community. As a member of The Interact Club, I contribute to various fundraisers, while coaching the Junior Boys Basketball Team instilled in me a profound appreciation for the effort involved, emphasizing the significance of being a vocal and positive leader.   Thank you for considering me for your program. I eagerly anticipate discussing how I can contribute to your school.
