Evaluations

Point University PG Ricky Ortiz is a high-motor guard with shooting ability from deep, and he plays with great pace and control. After watching his games, Ricky is very creative getting to the basket and using a variety of different finishes. He also makes the right reads and creates plays for his open teammates. I love watching him play – Ricky plays extremely hard and gets his team excited with his effort plays. Lots of confidence, and he’s ready to play right away from the start of the game to the end. This kid has some swagger for sure.   After talking with him and a few other connections, I’ve heard that Ricky works hard both on and off the court, spending a lot of time working on his craft. He’s also doing well in the classroom. Ricky is one of those guys who’s first in the gym and last out. A great addition for any D1/D2 JuCo to start right away and produce. — DJ Blanks, ScoutU Basketball Scout, DJ@ScoutU.com, 216-990-8617

Message from Ricky

My name is Ricardo Ortiz, and I am from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Last year, I played my freshman season at Point University. I graduated high school in 2023 from DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida. Currently, I have a 3.8 GPA and a total of 41 credits. I am majoring in Business (finance) with a minor in marketing. I’m a true point guard who will play physically on both sides of the court and like to use my body when attacking. I can shoot and score from all three levels and get my teammates involved at the same time.   Something that makes me special is that I’m willing to learn and I’m coachable at all times. I’ll always take what is best for the team over what is best for myself. I’m ready to give it my all every time I suit up and put my body on the line. I work out around 3 times a day in the offseason.   During the season I make sure to get my shots up and get weights in, as well as get some skill work with the assistant coaches 3-4 times a week. Each workout is at least 1 hour, and I make sure to give it my all during each. I also take care of my body with the appropriate rest and eat well. I will be the hardest worker you have been around, and I pride myself in the work I put in. I have recently gained 7 pounds since the season ended and am now at 180. I plan to get to 190 with more muscle by the end of summer.   Academically, I have been on top of my studies for the past 2 years and made sure to get as many classes as I could, passing all with As – except for one B – in my second semester. I am also an Eagle Scout, which taught me how to be a leader and has translated directly to the court. I appreciate you for taking your time to view my profile!
