Evaluations
5-foot-10, 135 pounds. OF/1B/2B. Bats switch/slap, throws R. Great athlete (also standout tennis player). Incredibly versatile at the plate. Can hit with power from both the right side (natural side) and left side and also can soft/power slap and bunt for hits. Leadoff hitter. Quick swing. Excellent eye-hand coordination and bat control. Flat swing leads to line drives and solid contact consistently. When slapping, strength is soft slapping to 5-6 hole and beating out the throw with her speed (2.87 home-1st on contact). Patient at the plate and draws a lot of walks. Working to improve staying back on changeups better and when batting lefty recognizing the outside pitch and not chasing it. In OF, has good (62 mph) and accurate arm. Reads ball and tracks well, enjoys diving and gets to a lot of balls with her length. At 1B, has good reach, excels at picks/scoops and has a good backhand. Working to improve footwork on ground balls and when to dive. Strong work ethic. Has a tee at home hits off of, works out 4 times a week with a personal trainer, runs on a treadmill and sees a hitting/slapping coach. Outstanding student (4.5 GPA with mostly AP/advanced classes).

Jacquelyn has a strong, long and lean body. She is a right-handed batter but also turns around and slaps very well, which compliments her speed as our leadoff hitter. Regardless of the pitching talent, Jacquelyn just finds a way to have quality at-bat after quality at-bat, which results in her reaching base all the time.
Defensively Jacquelyn is capable of playing multiple positions at a high level. She has a wide wingspan and great hands. Historically she has played first base for our VA Glory National Team; however, this fall we have really focused on getting her quality time in the outfield because of her speed and ability to cover the gaps. She is really a dynamic softball player whose bat is a plus, and with her ability to play multiple positions she is a big asset for any team that she is on. This summer and again in the fall she’ll be playing in several of the top tournaments around the country, including the PGF National Premier Division in CA.
Jacquelyn has played for me for the past three seasons. She is a pleasant and dedicated player to have on the team. Jacquelyn is also a great teammate and extremely coachable! I cannot express how good of a person she is and how wonderful of a family she comes from. Academically she is a standout! She is an “A” student and takes several AP classes. Jacquelyn has high expectations for herself in the classroom. She is truly the ideal student-athlete. I am blessed with the privilege of being her club coach and am sure that any school who brings her into their program will certainly be pleased with their decision.
— Frank Gagliardi, VA Glory National Mertz-Gagliardi Coach
Jacquelyn Cox is an extremely talented softball player in many facets of the game. Offensively she is our leadoff hitter and has a very unique talent. She can hit from both sides of the plate. Jacquelyn can hit for power from the right side (3 home runs this year) and from the left side she’s a triple threat. Jacquelyn can soft slap, hard slap and straight swing all from the left side. This girl has unbelievable bat control and hand-eye coordination – the best I’ve seen in the game. When she’s at the plate, she has a ton of confidence and it shows in her numbers (.446 average this year and .556 last season). Her predominant defensive position is in the outfield. She covers a lot of ground with her wheels and has a strong arm.
In regards to improvement, Jacquelyn works hard all year around to make her softball game better. She is always working each day in the cage and on the field. Being self-motivated, driven and competitive brings in a high level of expectations. Setting high expectations for yourself is a lot of pressure to handle. I admire how Jacquelyn handles that pressure and I love her passion for the game.
Not only is Jacquelyn a talented softball player, she is also a talented tennis player and an amazing student-athlete. She is a leader both in the classroom and on the softball field. At the end of sophomore year, Jacquelyn will have taken four AP classes and will have a GPA of 4.54. The college that Jacquelyn chooses is extremely lucky to have such an amazing, talented young lady.
