Evaluations

5-foot-10, 130 pounds. SG/PG. Very athletic with good speed. Physically strong. Excellent mid-range jumper off the dribble/screens or catch and shoot. Hits jumpers on step backs, 1 dribble and shoot, floaters and pull-up jumpers. Keeps eyes up court to make long passes. Gets up high and aggressive on rebounds with good vertical, boxes out well. Very good ballhandler with left and right (spin moves, between legs, behind back, drives to left and right, working to get even better). Overall, a smart player with a high court IQ. Very good defense, on or off the ball (pressures player defending, cuts off passing lanes to get steals). Working on taking more shots and taking control more on the offensive end. Can hit 3s, but doesn’t take very often due to how her team’s offense is run.   Very nice kid, respectful. Coachable. Excellent teammate (cheers on teammates and offers constructive criticism). Strong work ethic (stays after school to get about 100 shots in, has hoop in backyard that will shoot on for hours, even in the rain). Very determined and self-motivated. Excellent student (4.97 weighted GPA, 3.91 unweighted GPA with mostly AP/Honors courses). Engineering major. — Jason Lauren, ScoutU Scout, 414-303-7607 (cell), Jason@ScoutU.com   Athletic Skills/Strengths: Grace is an incredible mid-range shooter. She has true, jump-shot form that isn’t often found in the girls’ game. This makes her a threat from anywhere on the floor as she can just elevate her 5-10 frame above her defender and get a quality shot off. In the 2023-2024 season, Grace averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds per game. She also led the team with 43% FG, which were certainly not layups. She finished the season with three games of 20+ points where she was unstoppable.   Grace is deceptively fast. She’s not necessarily quick, but she’s very good in the open floor with excellent finishing ability near the rim. Her layup form is textbook. This season, she’s worked hard on developing next-level skills such as a fade-away jumper and quick, pull-up jump shots off the dribble.   An underrated skill for Grace is her passing ability. Every pass is crisp and on target. We rely on her heavily in our press break scheme to make the right decisions and hit the open player in stride. Grace was also second on our team with 1.5 assists per game.   Athletic Areas to Improve: The area we’re working on is her aggressiveness. Being new to the team this year, Grace would sometimes defer to more experienced members. Grace needs to assert herself as our number-one scoring option. While Grace has excelled in rebounding, most of her rebounds were because of her natural ability to be where the ball was. An area where she can get better is with her physicality. If Grace improves her core strength, she could easily average a double-double next season.   Non-Athletic Strengths: Grace is mentally very tough. Her parents let her make mistakes on her own terms, and her character has developed as a result. Grace is intrinsically motivated to succeed. She always expects nothing less than the best from herself. Honestly, we’re working on her ability to let go of perfection and keep pushing forward.   Grace is the first one in the gym and the last one out of the gym. I’ve had to turn off the lights on multiple occasions to get her to go home. Her dedication to, and love of the game of basketball is unparalleled. — Tom Kane, Lane Tech Coach

Message from Grace

My name is Grace Bush, and I’m a 2025 SG from Lane Tech College Prep in Chicago, Illinois. I am 5-foot-10 and average 10 points and 5 rebounds a game. I hold a 3.9 unweighted GPA (4.97 weighted) at one of the highest academically ranked schools in Illinois. I am highly motivated, hardworking and look to continue my growth in basketball as well as my academic journey.   Most of my life I have been a multi-sport athlete. My drive to succeed and excel in basketball heightened when I started playing in high school. Basketball is what keeps me balanced. I love the game – it’s what I wait for after a long day of school. The desire to succeed on and off the court is something very important in my life. My academic courses consist of all honors classes, in addition to the seven AP courses I’m taking by the end of my high school career. To me, what is most important is being a well-rounded person, and I feel that basketball is something that not only is fun but prepares you for life. Being able to play in college is something that I feel will set me up for success many years beyond my career. My work ethic is strong, and I spend hours shooting in the gym or in the backyard, rain or shine.   Thank you for taking an interest in me, and I hope we can talk soon!
