Evaluations

Gabby Jones is an exceptional catcher and utility athlete who has been dedicated to softball since the age of 7. Her reputation on the field is built on her extraordinary support of pitchers and an unmatched softball IQ, making her a pivotal player on any team. Gabby’s defensive prowess is evident in her pitch framing, precise blocking, and her ability to control the game from behind the plate. With a 1.85 pop time she stands out as an elite catcher, capable of shutting down the running game and giving pitchers the confidence to focus on their craft.   Offensively, Gabby is a powerhouse at the plate, hitting consistently and with power to all fields. Her impressive ability to get on base contributes to her team’s success. Beyond her athletic abilities, Gabby excels academically with a 4.0 GPA, demonstrating her commitment in all areas of her life. She is also deeply involved in her community, showing her dedication to giving back and being a well-rounded student-athlete.   Gabby’s leadership qualities are just as notable as her physical skills. Ranked the #24 catcher in the country by Extra Innings Softball, and earning First-Team All-Region, she consistently demonstrates the ability to inspire and uplift her teammates, especially when guarding the plate. As a 2028 graduate, Gabby Jones is a highly recruitable athlete whose blend of talent, intelligence and leadership makes her an invaluable addition to any collegiate program. — Susan Kemper, ScoutU Softball Scout, Susan@ScoutU.com, 604-808-5215   Gabby Jones is a phenomenal softball player. Defensively, she’s as strong of a defensive catcher as I’ve seen at her age. She is extremely smooth as a receiver. Her framing and ability to block are truly top-notch. A true asset to every pitcher on our team. Her arm strength has improved dramatically, and she continues to work on her transitions. She typically hovers in the 1.8 pop time range. Gabby has a unique ability to manage her pitchers during games. Her calming personality is a welcomed trait for her entire pitching staff. When not catching, Gabby is an excellent third baseman with great range and a quick release.   Offensively, Gabby is a gap-to-gap hitter with above average power. Her extremely high softball IQ provides for a great approach at the plate. She is very disciplined and has a great understanding of her role in all situations.   Like most athletes her age, Gabby should continue focusing on agility and strength training. Building muscle will only improve on all of Gabby’s strengths, including her power and her arm strength. Improvements in agility will be extremely valuable as well, particularly at third base.   As a player and person, Gabby is a coach’s dream. She brings an unmatched perspective to the game. Gabby has a work ethic like no other and truly loves being on the field. She is everyone’s favorite teammate and a true leader. Personally, Gabby is a devout Christian and lives her life every day in accordance with her belief system. She has brought that mindset to the team and it’s really helped her teammates with how they approach the game. In fact, Gabby has even started a bible study group for many of her teammates. Overall, a truly special human being. — Noli Snobar, Corona Angels Coach

Message from Gabby

My name is Gabby Jones, and I am a 2028 catcher from Sutter Union H.S. in California – home to the smallest mountain range in the world! At 5-foot-3 and 124 pounds, I am the #24 nationally ranked catching prospect (1.79 pop, 61 mph overhand velocity) with a secondary position of third base. I’m also a scholar athlete (4.0 GPA) and currently enrolled in Honors English, while being involved in the College Scholarship Federation, Student Government, FBLA and our Christian Club on campus. After high school I plan on continuing my education majoring in Sports Medicine and playing softball at the collegiate level.   From an early age I have developed a strong, consistent work ethic that is built on self-discipline. One of my strongest qualities is being individually determined, which has paid off in all parts of my life. In a game of failure, I have learned to have a positive growth mindset with a focus on “quick perspective changes.” This has allowed me to grow mentally and focus without getting stuck on negative outcomes. Being the youngest in my family and growing up watching my sisters play sports, I was able to learn the game very quickly, so my softball IQ is essential to me being a team leader.   My core values and beliefs guide my life, and this is a quality that sets me apart from others – being able to lead on and off the field. I am currently a student body officer and love being part of Student Council, initiating activities that encourage others to be more involved to make a positive change. My greatest accomplishment up to this point is starting a bible study group at my school and travel team. Every week includes bible study, academic study, practice, strength training/speed and agility, catching and hitting lessons. I also appreciate my family and friends joining me in my passions.   Thank you for your time to get to know me, and I look forward to talking with you in the near future!
