Evaluations

Ella is an exceptional young athlete who embodies the qualities of a dedicated and talented player. As a catcher, shortstop, and utility player, she brings versatility and skill to the field. Her powerful bat is a testament to her hard work and natural talent. Ella’s eagerness to learn and her ability to quickly adapt to feedback highlight her commitment to continuous improvement. Playing for one of the top organizations in British Columbia, she has proven her capabilities and dedication.   Next season, she will attend tryouts for their premier program. Additionally, Ella’s aspiration to join Synergy, the top travel team in BC, further demonstrates her relentless pursuit of excellence. With strong coaching and unwavering family support, Ella is well-positioned to achieve her goals. This season, she’s been invited to compete for a leading team at the provincial championships, where she aims to contribute significantly and help secure a gold medal. Ella’s determination and skill make her a standout candidate for any college program. — Susan Kemper, ScoutU Softball Scout, Susan@ScoutU.com, 604-808-5215   Ella Dodson is intrinsically motived to refine her skills and set new goals related to softball. She has a passion for the sport and a dedication to personal development that is well suited for high performance athletics. She is the first one at the field and the last to leave, consistently putting in work at home. On the field she is dialed in, fearless and calm. Mechanically, she has smooth hands, a high velocity arm, and quick feet. Ella is hard to stop on the base paths as she combines speed, grit and athleticism to steal bases. Her primary positions are catcher and shortstop, however she is a true utility player who can be slotted into any position. — Amanda Emans, Abbotsford Outlaws Coach   I have known Ella Dodson for 2 years, working for the Abbotsford Minor Fastpitch Association as an evaluator and instructor. I’ve seen Ella demonstrate natural athletic ability in her movements in everything she does. She is agile, quick with her feet, smooth with her body and movements, aggressive and risk-taking, not being afraid to try elite-level skills and always demonstrates a high-level IQ as well as a high level mental and emotional awareness. She has proven she is going to be an extremely good softball player and already is at the age of 13. Ella is a catcher/SS that is showing skills above her age group with catching, defense and hitting. She also volunteers her time to help other athletes by catching for her teammates outside of practice as well as older athletes, pushing herself to be better every day. I have seen her catch for pitchers 3 hours straight to get in extra work and to support her teammates.   Ella also demonstrates her work ethic outside of the game by watching video analysis of herself and researching other high-level athletes in the game, on top of working with personal softball trainers. Ella has very clean mechanics as an infielder and shows versatility being able to play most positions on the infield, and shines as a catcher. Her drive to be the best softball player is demonstrated daily when I work with her, showing above level focus, work ethic, and being a student of the game, including being extremely coachable. Ella is a very well-rounded young lady. She is polite, respectful, honest, hardworking, smart, determined, focused and gives 100% effort every single outing. I also watch Ella provide support and help to her teammates, demonstrating leadership qualities. I believe Ella can go very far in softball, as she currently exhibits love and passion for the game, as well as a hard work ethic and competitiveness within herself. It is a joy to work with her and to watch her play the game. — Michelle Bettles, Softball Instructor

Message from Ella

My name is Ella Dodson, and I will be graduating from Yale secondary school in British Columbia, Canada in the class of 2029. I’m eager to refine my skills and expand my knowledge in their softball academy program. Standing at 5-foot 3 and 115 pounds, my primary position is catcher (1.89 pop; .609 club BA). When I’m not catching, I play shortstop or serve as a utility player covering various positions.   I’m driven to excel in both athletics and academics, maintaining a 4.0 GPA while striving to play elite college softball. As a dedicated and disciplined player, I’ve earned my skills through hard work and determination. I’m a sponge for knowledge, always seeking to improve and expand my understanding of the game. In high-pressure situations, I remain calm and composed, relying on my mental toughness and focus to guide me through even the most intense moments.   Beyond softball, I’m a versatile athlete who enjoys playing volleyball and basketball. I like to stay active and develop my skills in various sports. I volunteer my time to support fellow pitchers by catching for them, even if I am behind the plate for hours. I’m willing to go the extra mile to help others improve their craft. My passion for the sport and commitment to teamwork drive me to lend a helping hand.   Since I first stepped onto the field at age 5, softball has been a true passion. It’s where I feel most alive, most confident and most connected to my purpose. As I continue on this journey, I’m excited to see what the future holds. I know that softball will remain at the heart of who I am and what I love.
