Evaluations

6-foot-8 and 175 pounds, Deegan Castle is a lengthy stretch 4 with great athleticism. Deegan plays above the rim and dunks everything he can. He has the ability to spread the floor and knock down the 3. Deegan is averaging 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals in the Western Australia Basketball League (WABL) for the U18 Perth Redbacks. He’s the type of player and person you want in your program. Deegan stretches the floor well – being able to knock down the 3 off a pick-and-pop, as well as attacking the basket and finishing with a dunk. He is an all-around threat.   Deegan has the potential to cap out at 7 feet tall, as he is 6-8 at 16 and still growing. Deegan is a high-character student with an equivalent 3.2 GPA. Currently he’s working on his body strength along with his back-to-the-basket game. A college weight room will benefit his development greatly, and the sky is the limit for him. Deegan will be a steal for any program. — Wes Morgan, ScoutU Basketball Scout, WesM@ScoutU.com, 61-0475-066-884 (cell)   Deegan is a standout athlete, combining height with exceptional coordination and quickness. His impressive vertical leap and agility make him a force to be reckoned with, while his ability to shoot from beyond the three-point line and his refined ball-handling skills allow him to create shots off the dribble and drive to the basket effortlessly. In the post, Deegan’s footwork and speed are remarkable, making him a versatile threat.   Although his lean physique can sometimes result in him being outmuscled in the paint, his passion for the game more than compensates. Deegan is a true team player, always encouraging and praising his teammates when the team performs well. His dedication to improving his skills shows his commitment to personal growth and his love for the sport. — Nick D’Elia, Perth Redbacks Coach

Message from Deegan

My name is Deegan Castle, and I’m a 2026 recruit from SEDA College in Western Australia. Standing 6’8” and weighing 175 pounds, I play as a forward and wing, often taking on point duties when needed. I’m in my final year of high school and actively compete in both the School Sport Western Australia (SSWA) competition and the 18U Perth Redbacks team in the Western Australian Basketball League (WABL). With a cumulative GPA of 3.2, I am committed to excelling both academically and athletically.   Basketball has been my passion since I started playing at age 12, initially as a center. My length and ball-handling skills allow me to create plays both on and off the ball, and I’ve consistently worked to improve all aspects of my game. My commitment to being the best I can has driven me to push myself – by my first year I was dunking, and I continue to evolve as a player. I pride myself on being coachable, adaptable and versatile, whether the team needs scoring, rebounding, defense or leadership.   In addition to my athletic pursuits, I maintain strong academic performance, earning B grades across all subjects in 2024, working hard to further improve during 2025. Through SEDA College, I’ve had the opportunity to work with industry leaders, including the Perth Wildcats (NBL), Perth Lynx (WNBL) and the Perth Redbacks. I’ve also earned several basketball officiating and coaching certifications through Basketball WA, further expanding my knowledge and skill set.   Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I look forward to connecting with you and continuing my journey in both basketball and academics.
