Evaluations

6-2 SG Chase Melat from Oil City High School in Pennsylvania is a big-time shooter! I was really impressed with his shooting and ball handling ability. With a long frame, his hesitation crossovers are lethal which send defenders flying in the other direction. Chase does a great job keeping the ball low on his crossovers, allowing him to get by defenders for easy pull-up jumpers or open lanes to the basket. He also is able to finish around the basket with both hands.   Chase has a smooth pull-up jump shot and catch and shoot 3-point shot. He does a great job moving without the basketball, allowing him to free himself for open shots. Chase plays solid defense and handles business off the court with a 3.5 GPA.   He does need to improve on getting stronger over the summer, but after talking with him and his coach, he’ll be in the gym frequently improving on that. Chase is working on different finishes around the basket to be effective at the next level. Overall a good kid and solid player who would fit well in a system offense that plays up and down. — DJ Blanks, ScoutU Basketball Scout, DJ@ScoutU.com, 216-990-8617

Message from Chase

My name is Chase Melat, and I am a 6-2 guard graduating in 2025 from Oil City High School (PA). I take my academics very seriously (3.5 GPA), and I’m still undecided on my college major. My biggest strength is my shooting (24 PPG travel ball) and my ability to create for myself and others. I love to compete and push myself beyond my limits.   I work out 7 days a week, which includes my basketball and lifting workouts. On top of that, I also practice with my Puma team, SPS Wildcats, and my other AAU team Dribble Kings. My workouts usually last about 3 hours daily. I love finding new ways to improve my game mentally and physically. My handle – combined with my shooting ability – are strengths that have helped me tremendously. I work hard on the court but also in the classroom, which has earned me the title of being an Honor Roll student.   Thank you for learning more about me, and I hope we talk soon!
