Evaluations

Berta is an exceptional forward with great hold up play, technically sound and gets shots off quickly in front of goal. Her ability to create space in front of goal allows her to convert a very high percentage of shots that she takes, which has earned her the title of “Top Scorer” in multiple leagues that she has played in. Berta is a student of the game with a high soccer IQ and enjoys watching soccer at the professional level. In addition to her soccer abilities, Berta takes her academics very seriously as she would like to study physics or aeronautical engineering in college. Berta has what it takes to compete at the next level and would be a great addition to any program! — Mackenzie Schissel, ScoutU Soccer Scout, Mackenzie@ScoutU.com, 256-283-1160   Berta Segura is an accomplished player, capable of playing multiple positions. Her center forward play has been a revelation this year – She has a strong presence on the ball, holds it up well allowing her to play in teammates, but her ability to score goals is what makes her stand out from the crowd. Her close control and the skill to get off shots quickly with both feet is what has allowed her to average over a goal a game, leading the goalscoring charts with 25 goals in 15 games as a 16-year-old in the top women’s league. Berta can also play as a center back, calm on the ball. She reads the play well, allowing her to break up attacks with the minimum of fuss. Her game understanding is excellent and she would be an excellent addition to any college program. — Alan Rickwood, Edge School Head Coach   Berta Segura is a dedicated soccer player who is very committed to her team and also to having a successful life and career. She is a player who always tries to improve both on the field and in whatever she puts her mind to.   As a player, Berta can compete in several positions. In the back line, she is dependable, covers a lot of ground and holds her own to win one-on-one battles. In the midfield, Berta is able to set up the attack and lead the team forward into an offensive game. As a forward, she is a finisher. Her shots on goal are strong and accurate, both on the ground and in the air. Berta is a very versatile and adaptable player who fits well into any type of game. — Arantxa De La Chica, Head Coach, CFF Olympia Las Rozas   Berta plays in the Alberta Youth Development League (APDL), the highest level of youth soccer in the province, and I can say that she’s one of the most exciting and game-changing players I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Playing as a number 9, Berta consistently demonstrates her ability to lead the line and make critical contributions that often determine the outcome of games. Her ability to secure the ball and bring teammates into the game and arrive into dangerous situations is an asset to any team.   Berta is a highly intelligent player with a strong technical base, qualities that allow her to excel both in and out of possession. She is a constant threat on the field, always meeting the high expectations set for her. Beyond her technical and tactical skills, Berta is a role model in terms of character. Her positive attitude and work ethic have earned her the admiration and respect of everyone around her, both on and off the field. She’s the kind of athlete who brings an infectious energy to the group, and her humility makes her approachable and well-liked by her peers.   It’s also important to note that Berta is a mature and confident person off the field. Having relocated to Calgary from Spain on her own this season, she has settled in seamlessly and became a key member of the team. Her commitment to success, both academically and athletically, has undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping her into the exceptional young woman she is today. Berta is an outstanding student-athlete who embodies the values of integrity, discipline and perseverance. I wholeheartedly recommend her for any program, and I am confident that she will be an asset to your community. — Philip Keller, Calgary Rangers

Message from Berta

My name is Berta Segura, and I am a 2026 soccer player originally from Madrid (Spain). During my junior year, I’m studying at the Edge School for Athletes in Canada. One of my biggest goals is to move to the United States for college to study physics and aerospace engineering while extending my career. Soccer has been an important part of my life since I was very young. I love the competition, the passion and just the enjoyment and adrenalin from playing the game. Last year in the WFC, I scored 18 goals in 8 games.   I have achieved the top scorer of the season for 2022-2023, and also was the top scorer in the 2024 Calgary Women’s Indoor League. I’m currently the leading scorer for the 2025 APDL Indoor League. I have played soccer since I was 6 and my whole family is very athletic. In Spain I played at Liga Preferente, the highest-level league, playing against Real Madrid or Atletico de Madrid among other great teams. I currently compete in the Calgary APDL as a member of the Rangers Soccer Club. I play as center forward, but I am also comfortable as a center back.   Although I have to get used to my new school, new teachers and classmates, and study in a non-native language, all of my final grades are above 90 and I am part of the Honor List. I am interested in studying abroad in the USA because I think it will provide me the opportunity to combine my academic dreams and my athletic career. I dream of becoming both: an accomplished athlete and an aspiring aerospace engineer, due to my interest in the exploration and physics of space.   I have always loved soccer, the community I find within it, and the competition involved. I really enjoy the camaraderie of my team and competing alongside them. I am a very competitive player who always wants to bring the best of myself for the team. I hope that I have the opportunity to attend a college with a warm and welcoming environment. Thank you for taking your time to learn more about me.
