Evaluations

5-foot-6, 137 pounds. 2028 C/SS. R/R. 1.81 pop, 56 mph catcher and infield velocity (65 mph run & gun). Hits No. 3 in club team’s lineup (.527 BA in 2024). Bat has pop (68 mph exit; 59.2 mph bat speed) with power potential. Mostly a pull-hitter but can hit to the opposite way. Utilizes lower half well and has a good rotation. Working on having a better bat path (gets on top of the ball sometimes). Good eye at the plate. Can bunt to get on base (3.05 20-yard dash). Behind the plate, can throw from knees to 2B and has a quick transfer. Solid at framing (positions body well to help get calls). Quick feet and consistent at keep ball in front when blocking. Sticky glove. Starts low and meets ball. Working on improving arm strength with weight training and throwing heavy ball. At SS, has excellent range and a strong forehand. Likes diving. Working on backhand. Aggressive baserunner and rarely gets thrown out when stealing (90+% success rate). Very strong work ethic. Has cage at home, does weight training 3 times/week, practices softball year round. Excellent student (3.95 GPA).

Message from Austyn

My name is Austyn Kinch, and I am a 2028 recruit from Mineral Point High School in Wisconsin. I am 5-foot-6 and 140 pounds, playing catcher, shortstop and second base. I have a 1.81 pop time, 56 mph catcher velocity (59 mph infield), and a .527 club batting average (68 mph exit velocity, 59.2 mph bat speed). My current GPA is a 3.95, and I would like to major in communication sciences and disorders in hopes of becoming a speech-language pathologist. As a player, I offer compassion, empathy and support to those around me. A large part of what I love about softball is the ability to work with and encourage my teammates.

As a two-sport athlete (also play volleyball), I have developed a strong work ethic. I practice batting and fielding for 1 hour two days a week respectively, and lift weights for 1 hour three days a week. Time management and dedication have been the key to my development, which allow me to be successful on and off the field. Outside of sports and school, I am an active participant in Student Council, Spanish Club and Book Club. By doing so, I am able to connect with my community and learn from other students.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me, and I hope we can talk soon.
