Evaluations

5-foot-6, 165 pounds. C/3B. R/R. Alex is a stud (D1 talent). At the plate, is a POWER hitter with very quick hands, excellent extension and uses her lower half well (20.8 rotational acceleration, 62.9 mph bat speed, 78 mph exit, 0.14 time to contact, bats No. 3 or 4 and led club with 8 HRs with a .505 BA). When makes contact, crushes the ball. Working on improving timing with her hands and not dropping her back shoulder (but knows when she’s doing it). Behind the plate, has an extremely quick transition and throws from her knees to 2nd base, resulting in a 1.61 pop (verified at a showcase). Can pick off runners at ANY base, even 2B. Very good at framing (starts down and meets the ball, positions body to block umpire’s view). Excellent receiver (sticky glove with strong hands, stays back with glove on changeups and dropballs). Keeps ball in front when blocking. Has knack for getting high pitches (was a soccer goalie). Has very good speed for her size (3.03 20-yard) and does not have a courtesy runner for her (can get steals, smart baserunner, not afraid to slide and get dirty, strong pop-up slide). At 3B, gets body in front of balls, has very good footwork and very few bobbles. Excellent bunt coverage (can do a “Jeter” jump throw) with very good range. Not afraid to dive. Solid backhand. Working on not throwing too hard at times to sacrifice accuracy. Has a good arm but working to get better (60 mph IF, 57.9 mph catcher) through arm-care classes and workouts. Strong work ethic (does weight training, attends open gyms and hitting/throwing classes). High softball IQ. Strong leader (loves cheering on teammates, calms pitcher down). Outstanding student (4.0 GPA with several AP and Honors courses). — Jason Lauren, ScoutU Scout, 414-303-7607 (cell), Jason@ScoutU.com

Message from Alex

My name is Alex Selear, and I am a 2026 catcher and third baseman from Menomonee Falls High School (WI) and Velocity 16U National. I am 5-foot-6 and 165 pounds. I have a pop time of 1.61 and am also powerful at the plate. I finished my 2024 club season with a .505 batting average and 8 home runs to lead my team. I have a rotational acceleration of 20.8 and an exit velo of 78 mph and a 62.9 mph bat speed. During my junior season, I batted .480 with a .585 OBP, .880 SLG, 6 home runs and 26 RBIs (All-State and All-Conference awards yet to be announced). During my sophomore season, I was named 1st-Team All-Conference, 1st-Team All-District and Honorable Mention All-State. I currently have a cumulative GPA of 4.13, and I’m planning on majoring in Criminal Justice.   As an athlete, something that sets me apart is that I have a competitive spirit and I am dedicated to putting in the time and effort to make me successful. I work out and lift weights four times a week. For the past 2 years, I have been going to school at 6 a.m. twice a week to get extra hitting reps in. During the offseason, I attend morning hittings, after-school lifting and open gyms. I also take hitting and arm care classes through my club, along with team practice. Balancing school, softball and work has taught me a lot about time management. My freshman and sophomore year, I took multiple honors courses. My junior year, I am enrolled in three AP classes, along with my fourth year of Spanish. In my community, I help coach a local softball team and help with the annual MFHS Softball Instructional Camp for young players. I also volunteer at my church and helped raise money for our local Police K9 Program a few years ago.   Thank you for taking the time to visit my profile!
