Choosing your college is often the first major decision for a young adult. With Gabby Champeny, she knew she wanted new experiences, but also in a place that she would feel comfortable. That’s why Champeny recently committed to Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Champeny had discussions with several programs, but it was MATC that provided a sense of belonging. She loves the restaurants, stores and activities found throughout Milwaukee. During her visit, Champeny developed a connection with the coaches and players that will continue to grow.

“We found ScoutU during Gabby’s junior year,” her mom Torie Champeny said. “The insight Jason Lauren offered was invaluable in Gabby’s softball recruitment journey. We, as parents, were able to stay involved and in the loop during the process to help guide our daughter in the college selection process. It was so great to have the ScoutU tools available to simplify what could have felt like a very daunting task of tackling the world of college sports recruiting. Gabby will be playing college softball for a Division 2 JUCO after receiving a scholarship. She is so excited to pursue her desired career path and continue playing the sport she loves. It was a win all around!”

At Beloit Turner High School (Wis.), Champeny helped her team capture back-to-back regional titles. MATC will have multiple options for taking advantage of her skills.

“Gabby is a two-way player with a good bat and 56-59 mph fastball in the circle,” ScoutU’s Jason Lauren said. “She will be a versatile player and I’m confident she will excel at MATC. She’s a great kid, and it was a pleasure helping her on her recruiting journey!”

Champeny isn’t just a softball player. She’s served as president of the school’s robotics team, along with being a swimming instructor at the YMCA. ScoutU is excited to follow her career as she advances to the next level.

“Jason was a great point person for any questions we had along the way,” said Matt Champeny, Gabby’s dad. “He was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had. There were many things about the recruiting process that we wouldn’t have known about had it not been for Jason’s help. ScoutU helped Gabby find MATC through the regional exposure emails. MATC was not a school that was on her radar, so when the coach responded, she was able to research the school and ultimately chose it.”
