evaluations

6-foot-1, 185 pounds. MIF/3B/OF. Bats L. Throws R. Very good athlete (also plays varsity basketball). 60-yard dash ranges from 6.9 to 7.1. Smooth, balanced swing with a good hip turn. High on-base percentage at the plate (excellent eye at the plate, draws a lot of walks, goes deep in to the count). Singles hitter that projects well at the top of the lineup. Excellent at hitting the other way. Excels with 2 strikes. Working to drive inside pitches better. Hustles on the bases and is aggressive to take the extra base. Versatile defensively with the ability to play 2B, SS, 3B and OF. Quick reaction time, agile, good range and smart in the field with game situations and what to do coming naturally. Working on arm strength (about 78 mph IF). Great teammate. Leads by example. Working out 3-4 times/week and does drills on his own. Very coachable. Self-motivated. Very good student (3.51 GPA, 26 ACT, 30+ on math and science, several advanced courses). — Jason Lauren, ScoutU Head Scout, 414-303-7607, Jason@ScoutU.com

MESSAGE FROM ETHAN

I am Ethan Schmitz. I am a person who will always do the little things and lead with my actions on the field and in the classroom. I live in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and will graduate in 2021 from St. Louis Park H.S. I’m a 6-1, 185-pound middle infielder who is striving to be an engineer. During my years at St. Louis Park, I have worked hard to have a GPA of 3.5 and to an ACT score of 26. On my ACT, I scored very high on the math and science portions of the test, scoring 30+ on each. My 60-yard dash has been tested at 6.9, I have made All-Star Teams with my club team three time and earned a varsity letter as a sophomore (junior season was canceled). As a student, I am very dedicated to excelling in my academics. I do this by challenging myself to take an AP/IB course every year and taking the test at the end of the year. This year, I was accepted as a candidate for the National Honors Society, and I also took 5+ AP/IB courses before my senior year. As a middle infielder, I have great range, and I’m constantly running situations through my head of what could happen, so I can anticipate better and make the play. As a hitter, I am one who will hit sharp line drives and am always looking for a way to take second on a single if I see the outfielder not hustling. In the box, I’m calm and focused on taking the next pitch and punching it back at the pitcher or driving it into a gap. I pride myself on my ability to find a way to win through my hard work, while doing whatever it takes to help my team win. Whether that’s throwing a tennis ball at the wall to practice short hops, taking bullpens to be ready for a random pitching appearance or lifting 3-4 times a week for 1-1.5 hours. I love playing baseball and want to continue playing. Thank you for your time, and I hope we can talk soon.
