evaluations

6-foot-0, 185 pounds. OF/RHP/1B/3B. 94 mph exit, 85 mph OF, 84 mph IF, 7.14 60, 83 mph fastball. Cooper knows how to produce and just gets it done, both at the plate and on the mound. At the plate, makes consistent hard contact. Contact hitter and extra-base hit threat. More of a pull hitter and hitting up the middle (working on hitting to opposite field better). Rarely strikes out. Has excelled vs. D1 recruits throwing 90, including getting a double off a University of Minnesota recruit. Waits on off-speed pitches. In the outfield, reads the ball well off the bat. Aware of game situations. Throws are accurate and on line. Working to improve arm strength and when should dive for balls. On the mound, can throw all three pitches (fastball, curveball, changeup) for strikes. Curveball is best pitch (1/7 movement with good bite, throws for strikes or out of zone to get batter to chase it). Changeup has good deception and tail to it. Working to have better location and when to throw what pitches. Also working hard in the weight room and on a arm program to gain velocity. Great teammate. High baseball IQ. Very good work ethic. Lifts or runs almost every day. Excellent student (3.875 GPA, 26 ACT, business major, takes AP classes). — Jason Lauren, ScoutU Head Scout, 414-303-7607, Jason@ScoutU.com  8 OUT OF 10 RATING (Potential draft pick and/or excellent college prospect): Cooper Smith is a 2020 OF/RHP with a 5-11 190 lb. frame from Bloomington, MN who attends Academy Of Holy Angels. Medium frame with a stocky, strong build showing mature physicality. Ran a 7.43 second sixty yard dash. Primary Outfielder sitting back on balls before making a read and working through it. Clean gather before shuffling into throws with an uphill release. Arm strength starting to show with carry to throws. Mechanics in place with good feel for the position. Secondary Righthanded pitcher showing smooth mechanics with a belt high leg lift to a drop and drive down the mound. Over the top arm action with a easy delivery. Stayed around the zone with all pitches. Fastball was somewhat flat with some late cut to it at times topping out at 79 MPH. Curveball showed 11-to-5 movement with depth that was his go to off-speed pitch. Righthanded hitter starting from a balanced look before working into a toe tap and stride. Bat wrap behind the helmet before showing a longer swing path to the zone. Middle of the field approach with a linear bat path squaring it up often. Quick hands generating plus bat speed. Outstanding Student. — Perfect Game, 2019 Fall Academic Showcase

MESSAGE FROM COOPER

My name is Cooper Smith, and I am attending IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL in the 2020-21 school year. I am a 2020 graduate at the Academy of Holy Angels (AHA), a college preparatory school in Richfield, Minnesota. I am 6-foot-0, 185 pounds and play LF, RF, 1B, 3B and RHP. With a GPA of 3.87 and a 26 ACT (27 ACT super score), I am looking to study business in college. I received a Perfect Game Grade of 8 (“Potential draft pick and/or excellent college prospect”). I batted .388 (.456 OBP) with 28 RBIs in 17 club games and was named All-Section and 1st-Team Tri-Metro All-Conference during my junior year. My exit velocity is 94 mph, 85 mph OF, 7.14 60 and 84 mph IF. My goal has always been to play college baseball and as a strong, versatile player, I know I can help your team.  What makes me a special athlete is that I’m a grinder. I helped my club and high school teams win multiple times by being a consistent hitter, pitcher and positional player. When my team needs a base runner or an RBI, I get it done. I am coachable, can play most positions on the field and pitch (as a starter or reliever). I worked out and did weight lifting at Starters Sports Training for 1.5 hours per session 3-4 days a week. Additionally, I participated in in the ACE+ Off-Season Arm Development Program, a Premier Pitching Program for D1/D2 student-athletes to increase my arm strength and velocity. I am a team player, I help bring people together (on and off the field), I am vocal, but I back it and lead by example. These are some of the reasons I was chosen to be the captain of my high school baseball team.  In addition to my play on the field, I am also an outstanding student.  Scholastically, I have taken many Honors and AP courses and have earned High Honors at AHA. I have worked hard in high school and will continue to work hard in college.  Thank you for taking the time to read this and learn a little bit about me.
