Evaluations

Avery Phillips, a 2028 graduate, is a standout softball player who excels as a catcher, 3rd baseman and utility player. She began catching at 12 years old and has since become a dedicated student of the position, consistently catching for fast pitchers with a pop time around 1.9 seconds. Avery’s quick reflexes, relentless hustle and competitive drive make her a key asset behind the plate. Learning from her father, a former college baseball player, Avery quickly absorbs lessons from others, continually improving her game.   At 3rd base, Avery’s travel ball experience has honed her ability to make accurate throws and field the ball with precision. Even with limited defensive opportunities due to her team’s strong pitching, she remains focused on refining her secondary play. As a utility player, Avery has earned the trust of her coaches, who have confidence in her ability to excel in any position.   Standing 5-foot-7, 175 pounds, Avery is a power hitter with a .448 average this fall season. Avery is also an Honor Roll student, supported by a family deeply committed to academic excellence. Her combination of athletic skill, academic dedication and team-oriented mindset makes her an exceptional candidate for collegiate softball programs. — Susan Kemper, ScoutU Softball Scout, Susan@ScoutU.com, 604-808-5215

Message from Avery

My name is Avery Phillips, and I am a 2028 graduate from Pinole Valley High School in California. I’m 5-foot-7 and weigh 180 pounds, playing primarily as a catcher (1.9 pop) or 3B but can be used as a utility player. Academically, I hold a 3.65 GPA with aspirations of majoring in business or engineering. I play for my high school’s varsity as well as club softball for Universal Coleman 16U.   What sets me apart as an athlete is my work ethic, size, athleticism and strength. I’m able to hit for both average and power. My strong arm and natural instincts help me make plays on defense, while my anticipation allows me to be a great base runner. I’m a team player who loves cheering for my teammates. I’m very coachable. I pride myself on being a quick learner, always ready to take feedback and use it to get better. I also believe that the success you see on the field comes from the effort you put in off the field.   Outside of practice I attend hitting and catching lessons, and work on fielding and hitting with my dad. I train 4-6 days a week, focusing on fundamentals, strength and agility. Academically, I maintain high grades and take on leadership roles. I am the VP of my school’s book club. I am also part of my school’s Earth Team internship program. Last summer, I helped organize a local summer camp with my church, where we collected supplies and supported on-site events. From these experiences, I’ve learned many things that I use now both in school and on the field.   Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me a little better. I really appreciate it, and I’m excited about the chance to keep growing as a player and student.
