Catcher is a position where strong defense alone can make you an everyday starter. Lizzy Wesoloski has that defensive ability, but she doesn’t stop there. The 2022 ScoutU prospect from Freedom High School (Wis.) also is an intimidating hitter in the batter’s box. Wesoloski recently committed to continue her career at Judson University, an NAIA program in Illinois.

“As soon as I stepped onto campus, I got a feeling that I wanted to be there for the next 4 years,” Wesoloski said. “I loved the energy coach (Erica) Hayworth and her team gave off, and I knew what they had was special. Coach has created the family-oriented atmosphere that was very important to me. I love her drive to get better every day, whether on the field, in the weight room or even the classroom.”

Wesoloski was named 1st-Team All-Conference last year when she batted .390 with five home runs, 29 RBIs and a .780 slugging percentage. She also threw out nine potential base stealers.

“Lizzy has tremendous upside with her size and power,” ScoutU’s Jason Lauren said. “She has a smooth swing and also a solid arm behind the plate at 61 mph. Lizzy has a ton of experience, having been on varsity since her freshman year. I’m excited to see the success she will have at Judson!”

Wesoloski, who holds a 3.8 GPA, wanted a school where she could continue to grow as a person, student and athlete. Judson University captured that distinction among all the programs that recruited her.

“I am so excited!” she said. “I have wanted to play college softball for as long as I can remember, and now that it’s official, it’s a dream come true! I received three offers total, counting Judson. I got calls from nine coaches, but I have received texts from about 12 or 13.”

The college recruiting process can be overwhelming, so it helps to have an experienced teammate on your side. Wesoloski is grateful for the assistance she received from Jason Lauren and ScoutU.

“Jason has impacted me greatly!” she said. “I was able to contact coaches easily and show them my recruiting website even easier! ScoutU helped me find coach Hayworth and Judson University, and I could not be more thankful for that!”
