Every college looks great in the brochure. But until you’ve seen it live and in person, you can’t be completely sure which one is best. For 2023 ScoutU outfielder Kally Meredith, her campus visit to Florida International University sealed the deal.

“My senior teammates told me that once I visit the right school, I will know,” Meredith said. “And sure enough, during my time at FIU, I knew that this was where I wanted to spend my collegiate career. I absolutely love the environment, the coaching and the academic/athletic opportunities available to me there. As this wasn’t an easy decision, I can say with great confidence that I made the right one by choosing Florida International University.”

Meredith, who received phone calls by more than 20 college coaches, has a blazing time of 2.6 seconds from home to first base. This fall she posted a .450 batting average with 28 runs, 23 stolen bases and 13 RBIs with the Beverly Bandits Premier Allen 18U, one of the top club programs in the country.

“It was a pleasure helping Kally with her recruiting the last 1.5 years,” ScoutU’s Jason Lauren said. “She was great at doing what she needed to do to help her recruiting and following my advice. When she started getting D1 offers, it didn’t surprise me at all with her elite speed. She’s one of the fastest players I’ve seen in my 14 years of scouting. If she places a bunt where she wants it, it’s impossible to get her out. I’m sure she will have a great career at FIU!”

Meredith helped Kaukauna (Wis.) High School win the 2021 WIAA Division 1 Tournament championship while earning 1st-Team All-State honors along the way. She complements her athletic resume with a 3.9 GPA in the classroom.

“I received four other offers to play Division I softball, and I am extremely grateful for all of the coaches who believed in me as a recruit,” Meredith said. “Having options gives confirmation that you are choosing the right school, because you really have to pick apart every detail to compare and contrast.”

Meredith, who’s used to being a blur on the basepaths, got an early start in the recruiting process and was able to take her time. She’s ready to face the challenge of playing in Conference USA.

“I am extremely excited for this opportunity,” Meredith said. “It has been a long time in the making, and I can’t wait to finally live out this dream.”

It’s a long way – over 1,500 miles – from Kaukauna to Miami, Fla. But Meredith was willing to search the country to find the best place to earn a degree and continue her softball career. She’s thankful that ScoutU provided the tools to make that connection happen.

“The website and recruiting profile ScoutU created gave coaches a chance to see my skills in game action and a practice-based setting through an email alone,” Meredith said. “My website was always up-to-date with my newest stats and accolades – both athletic and academic! Also, the emails sent by ScoutU really helped get my name out to coaches. I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done to help me in my recruiting process.”
